Hello + welcome to this tiny space on the internet! I created this blog (+ changed the name twice since) 14 years ago as a creative outlet from my career in the emergency room as a PA. After spending the past 7 (or so) years on social media outlets, I have decided to delete all of the ones associated with this blog and get back to the heart of blogging.
After reading just a few pages into “No Such Thing as Bad Weather” I knew I had to get the winter layers my kids need to get outside more during the cold temperatures. They have been getting outside WAY more than usual this year due to the pandemic and I am really grateful for that! These cold weather layering items will come in handy as the temperatures drop and you want to continue to give your kids that fresh air that is so vital to their happiness and development! Here we go!
For any items from Reima (one of my favorite Scandinavian brands for winter layers) you can use the code: LYNZY20 for 20% off!
Cold Weather Layering for Kids
Add your Base layer:
two piece merino wool
OR one piece wool union suit
Add your mid layer:
Add your final layer:
One piece snowsuit (for baby) OR One piece snowsuit (for toddler/bigger kids)
Or Coat + Pants | my kids have the one piece snowsuits from Reima and they run a little larger and have always lasted two years for each child and then I hand them down. They are excellent quality!
Boots + Accessories:
Mittens | these mittens are great because they have a tightening strap on the outside so that they stay on better!
Balaclava | A great way to keep the head, chin and neck warm all in one!
Wool socks | I double layer these up when it’s really cold!
Winter boots | these are great for kids!
Stay tuned for my blog post that will put together layering for mothers when they want to venture outside with their kids! As I grow older, I become more and more nervous of the cold because it seems to affect me differently as I age. This can be eliminated with the right layers for certain temperatures.
Lynzy, I’m so grateful for all the info you provide. We live in the PNW and it is wet here in the winter. Any recs for rain gear?
I just grabbed my 3yr old a full rain suit from Amazon and it has worked wonders the last couple of days! She’s been able to play outside and stay dry 98% of the time. It’s the Tuffo brand. We’re in the PNW as well!
Hi Lynzy… thank you! my 1.5 yr old needs some good winter gear. Do the hoods stay up well on the Reima snow suits?
