 There are some days when I feel so defeated by this big fixer-upper we bought. I sit around thinking “how will we ever get this home to be what we want it to be?” But then we complete projects like this and it reminds me how much I love seeing the before and after images of all the hard work that we put into making this space our very own. The reality is that I would never be able to buy a home and have it be exactly what I want, we have to build that for ourselves and I love it. 

This “screen porch” was a complete disaster when we started. The screens were trashed and falling apart and the rails were hardly staying together. Not to mention the brick that was turned green from all of it’s previous years. I have no idea how we all did it, but we managed to do this makeover in less than 3 weeks. My father is an absolute animal (slash genius) and can build anything in like two seconds flat. He drove down here every day for 2 weeks to help us get this done. My husband has learned so much from him and I love watching them work on our home together! 

We decided to make this room half screen/half wall for now. Eventually we may switch to having half windows, but for now we stuck it out with screen (more cost effective). I decided to put in ship lap (the real deal) on the inside because I hope to put it throughout a lot of our home and wanted this to be an extension of that space. This stuff is NOT cheap. I repeat, NOT. However, my dad insisted on using this over building it ourselves – and I always listen to him 😉

The porch was a really crazy blue color and the ceiling was “white” AKA brown in color. My husband painted the whole thing and had to put on a crazy amount of coats to make sure that you couldn’t see the blue paint through it. We still need to slap on some baseboard, put in the ceiling fan, and a few other things…. but overall, I am SO excited about the way it came out!

Raymour & Flanigan had this amazing set that I saw online so we went over to our local store to try it out and make sure that we liked it. The second we sat on it, we knew it was the right set for us. It’s incredibly comfortable and we added on the platinum protection plan so that if the cushions get dirty (HELLO children) and ruined, we are protected. It is so worth it to get the platinum protection plan because it seriously protects against everything even food and beverage stains (HELLO CHILDREN) 😉 If you buy anything from Raymour & Flanigan, make sure that you check out their platinum protection plan!

One of my favorite ideas for this porch was planting a little herb garden. I picked up this awesome planter at Brimfield Flea Market last week and couldn’t wait to create our little herb garden. Eventually I would also love to have a vegetable garden outside as well!
