This year’s fall capsule wardrobe focuses on simplicity and minimalism. I focused on using items form my own closet that I love and have loved for years. Many of these items can also work year round and not necessarily just in the fall + winter. I will create a separate capsule for winter since more layers typically need to be added here in New England for the colder weather. Anyways, I hope that this blog post inspires you to cut down to the pieces you really love and that work for you. You do NOT need to have “all the things”, a few quality pieces that will last you year after year will make you happier! It’s also a lot easier to get dressed when you have less items to choose from. I created 15 outfits from the items in this capsule but do not limit yourself, so many more outfits are possible!

The two pairs of denim and black pants are not 100% necessary BUT I do love myself a more tapered denim AND a wide leg. The black pants are also something that I often wear so one pair of black leggings and one pair of dressier wide leg pants made it into this capsule, I couldn’t choose!

THE ITEMS

Rib Knit Cropped Long Sleeve | I find this to be a top that I am always pulling for in my closet. I have the ribbed knit button sleeve top from Madewell (very similar to this one) and this is the only top I have found that is close to it. It goes with anything + everything!

Simple White Tee | You always need a simple white tee in any capsule wardrobe and this one from Ayr does not disappoint

Ribbed Long Sleeve Top | a very basic long sleeve ribbed top that is the perfect length to tuck

Ribbed Tank Top | This tank top is great for underneath cardigans – the length is great for tucking as well

Ayr Cotton Long Sleeve Oxford | This oxford is crisp and a great length. This type of shirt is always in style and there are so many different ways to wear it – check out my 4 ways to wear it here.

Mock Turtleneck Sweater | A striped sweater is a great piece for your wardrobe that will never go out of style as well. This sweater can also be draped on your shoulders for some dimension with certain outfits.

Jennie Kayne Cashmere Cocoon Sweater | An open cardigan sweater is the perfect piece to throw on over any outfit for additional comfort when it’s chilly outside. I also love that you can wear this over a dress OR dressed down over loungewear

Madewell Alpaca Crew Sweater | A gray sweater is a great neutral that can go with just about anything – also another great piece for draping over your shoulders or using as a layer

Single Breasted Blazer | I love a plaid blazer to spice up an outfit – keep it simple with denim and a white tee or wear it over a dress with sneakers!

Oversized Coat | This oversized coat can be layered over anything in your closet and instantly elevates it. You can even wear it over some pajamas 😉

Levi’s Ribcage Straight Ankle Denim | A classic pair of denim that has a very flattering fit – love the higher waist. I did have to go up one size from my normal because there is NO stretch to these!

Reformation Mason Pant | I love everything about these pants. They are incredibly comfortable, can be worn year round and you can dress them up or down. I went up one size in these.

Athleta High Rise Leggings | I have raved about these for years. You can wear these all throughout pregnancy. I wear the same ones I wore with two of my babies! They are so easy to put on and they DO NOT collect fur (which is key for me with all of our animals).

Raw Hem Ivory Colored Denim | A great pair of denim that works year round. I am not a fan of white denim but this cream colored denim is a lot easier on the eyes and I think it makes it work better year round!

Wide Leg Denim | I had to include a pair of wide leg denim in this round up because I just love these so much and it reminds me of the 90s!

Ruffled Floral Print Maxi Dress | comes in a variety of colors and prints – I have one of these from a few years ago and it’s a gorgeous dress! Layer it with a denim jacket or a cardigan with some sneaks or boots for fall!

Converse Sneakers | These are my favorite sneakers that I own. I love the cream color of them and the cool hightop converse that has never gone out of style

Birkenstock Lined Sandals | I got these a few years back and I love wearing them without socks during the fall weather and then layered with a chunky ivory colored sock in the winter!

VIVAIA loafers | All of their shoes are made from recycled bottles, antimicrobial and breathable AND machine washable.

Black Waterproof Boots | I have had these Madewell ones for years and I absolutely love them! I really love the look of those DV ones as well.
