Hello + welcome to this tiny space on the internet! I created this blog (+ changed the name twice since) 14 years ago as a creative outlet from my career in the emergency room as a PA. After spending the past 7 (or so) years on social media outlets, I have decided to delete all of the ones associated with this blog and get back to the heart of blogging.
Rhinitis of pregnancy is very common (“stuffy nose”) and can be very annoying during the third trimester especially. There are a few things that definitely help but for me it was when this turned into a full blown sinus infection that I need to find relief and FAST. It all started out with a little cold x 1 week and then I woke up at 1 am one night with the most excruciating pain in the right side of my face. It felt like I was being punched repeatedly and I couldn’t even chew. I reached out to my Instagram family for some tips and tricks and here is what worked for me!
Neti Pot and/or Sinus Rinse // MIRACLE WORKER. I swear to you if you try ANYTHING on this blog post, this needs to be it! Without getting too graphic, this clears out EVERYTHING and makes you feel like a million dollars. I PROMISE. Use it 4 times a day! I personally only used the sinus rinse but there are many people that like to use both!
Sleep more upright // I slept with 2-3 pillows just to keep my head upright so that my nose would be able to drain rather than clogging more nastiness into my nasal passages and sinuses.
Flonase // Make sure you use the sinus rinse/neti pot before the flonase! It helps your skin to absorb the medication better and you’ll have better results!
Steam with essential oils // Boil some water and insert a few drops of Oregano, peppermint, lemon, and / or eucalytpus. Put your head over the pot and breathe deeply!
Colloidal Silver // Use 10 sprays in each nostril a few times a day! Sovereign Silver comes with a nasal spray top and is the best brand for the job! 😉
Tylenol // Taking this every 6 hours definitely helped me!
Apple Cider Vinegar // heat it up in a mug and breathe in the steam! You can also drink a little shot of it daily to help!
Compresses // Hot compress x 1 minute followed by cold compress for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times ending with the cold compress. Repeat several times throughout the day.
Natural tea // 1 bag of peppermint tea, sprig of fresh thyme, sprig of fresh oregano, sprig of fresh mint, 1t crushed ginger and 1 piece of fresh fennel
“Pure” Sudafed // sold behind the pharmacist’s counter – also be sure to check with your OB GYN to make sure that it is safe for you to use 🙂
A cool trick // Press your tongue into the roof of your mouth as hard as you can for twenty seconds while pressing the space in between your eyebrows at the same time!
PINEAPPLE // Okay so one person told me about this and I ate a bunch of it and feel better! No idea if it was this and the combination of everything else, but it’s worth a try!
Get a “Medicine Ball” from Starbucks // This was new to me and someone told me to pick it up! It’s a Venti cup with a bag of jade citrus mint tea and a bag of peach tranquility!
Humidifier/ Air purifier // This is the one we have but anything will do! Keep that humidity in the air so it’s not as dry!
HYDRATION // KEY to survival. Drink lots and lots of water!
Neti Pot is the bomb thank you so much for writing this post. I finally found relief.
I am reluctant to use colloidal silver while pregnant, is it safe?
I live by oregano. Telia oil oil of oregano to be specific. It is amazing. Im freaking out a little because i feel a sinus infection rearing its head & im 8 weeks pregnant. Every ive read says oregano is a no go during pregnancy – yet your post says its a way to help (during pregnancy) is it truely okay to use… ?
Very nice article.
Thanks for sharing.
Keep up the great work.
I was advised by my OB to avoid flonase because it is category c during pregnancy so please check with your ob before using this.
